Players use air weapons called markers. These markers shoot small, round balls. We call these paintballs. They are filled with bright dye. The balls break when they hit a person. This leaves a mark to show they were hit.

Most paintballs are eco-friendly. They are made of safe, water-soluble materials. This means they break down easily in nature.

Safety is very important in this sport. Every player must wear a mask. These masks protect the eyes, mouth, and nose.

Players also wear pads on their knees and elbows. Some wear special jerseys to protect their skin.

There are many ways to play. Woodsball is played in large forests. Speedball is played on small, flat fields. In speedball, players use inflatable bunkers for cover. Some games are simple matches. Other games are large scenarios. In scenario play, games can last for days! Players might use vehicles to move around. They might even use paint-filled balloons. People play for fun or in big tournaments. Professional teams travel to compete for prizes.
