Street games are played on city streets.

You do not need a big field. You can play on hard ground like asphalt. These games are a big part of street culture for kids. They play in parking lots and back streets too.

Many games change to fit the city. Players use what they find around them. In stickball, a manhole cover might be a base. A building might act as a foul line. Some games use a soft ball called a Spaldeen.

Some street activities are called street sports. These are often very creative. They use the city in new ways. For example, some people do freerunning. They call this a physical art. Other people do solo-climbing on city walls. High-wire walkers also use the city. One man walked between two tall towers in 1974. These people use the city to express themselves. They turn the urban world into a place for art and skill.
