Athletes ski or snowboard down a snowy course. The course has many parts. It has jumps and metal rails. It also has other shapes in the snow. This sport grew from skateboarding and BMX.

Skiers use special skis called twin-tip skis. These skis are the same on both ends. This helps them go backward. Going backward is called switch. These skis also help them stay balanced when they spin. Athletes do many kinds of tricks. They spin, flip, or grab their gear. They also do grinds on the rails. Most pros mix these moves together.

Judges give points for each run. They look for many things. They want to see big jumps. This is called amplitude. They want to see hard tricks. They look for smooth landings too. Judges also like to see new tricks. This helps the sport move forward.

Slopestyle is in the Winter Olympics. It joined the games in 2014 in Sochi, Russia. Joss Christensen and Dara Howell won for skiing. Sage Kotsenburg and Jamie Anderson won for snowboarding.
