sports Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Freestyle BMX is a way to ride bikes using tricks.

It grew from BMX racing. In the 1970s, kids rode on ramps and in empty pools. Some riders even used concrete water channels. Today, it is a big sport. It even appeared in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Riders choose different ways to ride. Street riders use curbs and stairs. Park riders use skateparks made of wood or concrete.

Some parks have bowls for riding. Vert riding uses a tall half-pipe. Riders go up the sides and do tricks in the air.

Other riders like trails. They ride on paths with dirt jumps.

These jumps have a steep takeoff and a landing. Flatland is another style. Riders use a smooth, flat surface like a parking lot. They use metal pegs to stand on. They spin and balance the bike in many ways.
