Korfball is a team sport for men and women.

A teacher named Nico Broekhuysen made the game in 1902. He lived in the Netherlands. He based it on a Swedish game. He changed the ring to a basket. The name comes from the Dutch word "korf," which means basket.

Each team has eight players. There are four women and four men on each team. The game is played on a court with two zones. Each zone has a basket on a tall pole. Players try to throw the ball into the other team's basket. You cannot run or dribble with the ball. You must pass it to your teammates to move it. This way, players must use teamwork to win.

Rules keep the game fair. You cannot tackle or hold other players. You also cannot score if a defender is close to you. This helps keep the game about skill rather than strength. Today, people play korfball in 69 countries. The Netherlands, Belgium, and Taiwan are very good at it. You can even play a version on the beach!
