Muqali was a very important leader in the Mongol Empire. He was a general who served under the famous leader Genghis Khan.

Muqali was known for being a very wise and capable commander. He was part of the Jalair tribe. His father was a leader named Gü'ün U'a. This family had a long history of serving the Mongols. Many people think he was one of the best generals in history. He was a man that even Genghis Khan trusted deeply.

Muqali's journey began when he was a young servant. His father offered him to Temujin, who later became Genghis Khan.

Serving the Khan helped them become very close friends. In 1206, Genghis Khan gave him a big job. He was given command over a large group of soldiers. This group was called a third tumen. He also gained control over many eastern lands. This closeness allowed him to become a top advisor.

As a general, Muqali had a very special way of leading. He was often sent to lead wars in China.

Genghis Khan even made him a viceroy of China. This meant he had the power to make his own decisions. Muqali did not always choose to fight his enemies. Instead, he often tried to turn foes into friends. He used kind and peaceful ways to win people over. This helped him manage large areas with only a few men.

Muqali led many campaigns between the years 1211 and 1223. In 1211, he fought in the Battle of Yehuling.

He later led troops through many places like Hebei and Shandong. He even crossed the Yellow River on ice in 1222. He captured many important cities in the Shaanxi region. Even with a small force, he won many battles. He died in the spring of 1223 at age 53. Before he died, he said he had never been defeated.

Muqali's family continued to be important for many years. His son, Bo'ol, took over his leadership roles.

His descendants served many different Mongol leaders. Some of them even helped rule in places like Baghdad. His family also became very well known for following Chinese traditions. They worked as officials in the Yuan dynasty later on. Today, a statue of Muqali stands in Ulaanbaatar. He is remembered as a great and successful leader.
