Jebe was one of the most famous generals for the Mongol leader Genghis Khan. He belonged to the Besud clan of the Taichud tribe. Even though he started as an enemy, he became a top leader. This happened after a famous battle in 1202. During that battle, an arrow hit the neck of Genghis Khan's horse. Jebe, then known as Jirqo'adai, admitted he was the one who shot it. He told the leader he would be loyal if he lived. Genghis Khan valued skill and loyalty. He pardoned the man and gave him a new name. Jebe means "arrow" or "weapon" in the Mongolian language.

Jebe was known for using very clever and daring plans. He was a master of the cavalry, which means soldiers who fight on horses. One famous trick was called a feigned retreat. This is when a leader pretends to run away to trick the enemy. In the winter of 1211, Jebe used this at Liaoyang. He left supplies on the ground to lure the Chinese troops out. His army then rode 100 miles in just 24 hours. This fast movement surprised the enemy and helped Jebe win.

Jebe helped the Mongol Empire grow by fighting in many different places. From 1211 to 1214, he fought the Jin dynasty in China. He worked with another famous general named Subutai. They led the left wing of the army to win big battles. Later, in 1218, Jebe was sent to defeat a leader named Kuchlug. Jebe only had 20,000 men to fight Kuchlug's 30,000 men. He used smart moves to win that fight too. He was so successful that Genghis Khan even worried he might rebel. To prove he was loyal, Jebe gave the leader 100 white horses.

In 1219, Jebe took part in the invasion of the Khwarezm Empire. This was a very hard job because of the weather. He led his men through the Tian Shan mountains in the winter. The snow in the mountain passes was over five feet deep. Jebe was able to move his troops through this deep snow. He managed to trick the enemy's large cavalry force. This helped divide the empire and made it easier for the Mongols to win.

Jebe's later years were filled with more famous travels and battles. He led a raid near the Caspian Sea. He also fought at the Battle of the Kalka River. Most historians think he died around the year 1224. However, the exact way he died is still a mystery. Some people think he died in battle near an island. Other scholars say there is not enough proof for that idea. Even with these mysteries, Jebe remains a legendary name in history.
