What is most important to you? This is a big question. Your answer can be called a life stance. A life stance is how you see the world. It is how you decide what matters most. It guides how you think and act every day.

Some people have a religious life stance. They might follow a faith. They may use prayer or holy books. Others have non-religious life stances. These might include ideas like humanism or atheism. A life stance can be about a god or about nature. It can even be about many different things.

The term "life stance" is not very old. People started using it in the mid-1970s. A man named Harry Stopes-Roe helped develop the idea. He wanted a fair way to talk about all beliefs. He wanted to include everyone. This meant religious people and non-religious people. He hoped the term would help different groups respect each other. Even some humanists disagreed with the new word at first. But the term grew to be used by many groups around the world.
