Hermann Lotze was a German thinker. He was a philosopher and a doctor. He studied many different things.

Lotze studied how the body works. He also looked at how we think. This helped him start new ways to study the mind. He thought the physical world follows strict rules. These rules are like a machine. He called this mechanism.

But Lotze did not think the world was just a machine. He believed in three main areas. First, there are facts. Second, there are laws. Third, there are values. Values are things like what is good or beautiful.

He thought these three areas are not separate. They all fit together in one big way. He believed a divine being or God uses these laws. This helps the world reach its goals. He wanted to join all human thought into one view. He believed that life is full of many small details. We must look at these details to find true meaning.
