What if everything in the world is actually just one thing? This big idea is called monism.

It is a way of thinking about how the world works. Some people believe that everything comes from a single source. Others believe that only one kind of substance exists. They think the many things we see are just parts of that one thing.

Many thinkers have shared these ideas. Long ago, a man named Thales thought water was the base of everything. Another man named Anaximenes thought it was air. A thinker named Heraclitus believed fire was the main part of the world. Later, a man named Spinoza said that God and Nature are the same thing.

There are many ways to look at monism. Some people believe the mind and the body are one. Others believe that only physical things exist. Some people also use these ideas in their faith. For example, pantheism is the belief that the universe and a god are the same. It is a deep way to wonder about our world.
