Lagerfeld had a very busy way of working. He did not just draw clothes; he managed every part of a fashion house. This included designing new collections and taking photos for advertisements. He even arranged how the stores looked for customers. He was a master of many different styles. Sometimes he made soft, flowing clothes with thin fabrics. Other times, he made bold looks with huge shoulder pads.

His journey began in Hamburg, Germany, where he was born in 1933. As a young boy, he loved to make sketches during class. He learned more from visiting the Kunsthalle Hamburg museum than from school. In 1954, he entered a design competition for the International Wool Secretariat. He won a prize in the coat category in 1955. This helped him start a career working for famous designers like Pierre Balmain.

Lagerfeld worked for many important brands throughout his life. In 1965, he joined the Italian house Fendi to modernize their fur. He even created the famous double F logo for them. In 1966, he began working for Chloé, where he became a very famous designer. In 1983, he joined Chanel, which was a struggling brand at the time. He helped Chanel become a top fashion house again.
