Tiny bugs called head lice can live in human hair.

They feed only on human blood. They cannot live on pets like cats or dogs. These bugs move by crawling. They spread when one person's head touches another person's head. They do not jump or spring.

Lice can make your head feel very itchy. This itch may not start for six weeks. If you have had lice before, it might itch sooner.

You might see small bites on the back of the neck.

To find lice, you must look for live bugs. Finding empty eggshells, called nits, is not enough. You can use a special fine-tooth comb to help.

This is often done by combing wet hair with conditioner.

There are many ways to treat lice. You can use special oils like dimethicone. This oil coats the lice to stop them from working right. Some people also use medicated creams. You can even use a hair dryer with warm air.

It is important to check the whole family to stop the bugs from spreading.
