Malathion

life science Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Malathion is a tool used to stop bugs. People use it on farms and in parks. It can also stop mosquitoes. In the US, it is a common way to fight bugs.

This tool works in a special way. It stops a part of the bug's body from working. This part is called an enzyme. When the enzyme stops working, the bug cannot function.

Some people use it to help with health. Low doses can treat lice in hair. It can also treat scabies, which are tiny skin bugs.

But there are things to know. In some places, lice have learned to fight it. This means the spray does not work on them anymore. Also, malathion can be bad for some animals. It is toxic to leopard frog tadpoles. The spray can also change inside a body. It turns into malaoxon. This new part is much more toxic than the first. Most of the time, the body clears it out in three to five days.
