People use these tools in medicine and on farms. Some tools kill only ticks. We call these ixodicides. Other tools kill only mites. We call these miticides. Some tools target a specific mite called Sarcoptes. These are called scabicides.

There are many ways these tools work. Some are sprays, like permethrin. This spray can also affect fleas and mosquitoes. Other tools work like a dry powder. Diatomaceous earth dries out a mite's outer skin. This helps keep bees safe from varroa mites. Some tools are made by boiling lime and sulfur in water. This makes lime sulfur. It helps treat mange.

People even use acaricides to help rhinos. They pump the liquid into a rhino's horn. This is meant to stop people from poaching. If a person eats the horn, they may get a stomachache. It may also cause nausea. This helps keep rhinos safe in the wild.
