People use these tools in medicine and in farming. They help keep living things healthy and safe. Some people call them by different names. Ixodicides kill only ticks. Miticides kill only mites. Scabicides are even more specific to a mite called Sarcoptes.

These tools work in many different ways. Some are liquids that people can spray. Permethrin is one example of a spray. It can also affect insects like fleas or mosquitoes. Other tools work by drying things out. Diatomaceous earth is a powder that dries a mite's outer skin. This is helpful for beekeepers. They use it to fight the varroa mite.

Other tools are made by boiling ingredients together. Lime sulfur is made by boiling lime, sulfur, and water for one hour.

Scientists and doctors have found many ways to use these tools. Doctors can prescribe ivermectin to help humans. It treats people with lice or mite infestations. Farmers also use it for birds and rodents. There are many types of miticides used in farming. Some names include abamectin, bifenazate, and cypermethrin.

These chemicals help protect crops and animals. They are very important for food and health.

There are many specific facts about how these tools are made. To make lime sulfur, you mix hydrated lime with sulfur and water. Hydrated lime can bond with 1.7 times its weight in sulfur. Quicklime can bond with even more, up to 2.2 times its weight. The strongest version is diluted at a 1:32 ratio. It is applied to the skin every six days.

This careful process helps treat things like mange.

People even use these tools to protect wild animals. Some people use them to stop rhino poaching. Workers drill holes into a rhino's horn. They then pump pressurized acaricide into the horn. This is safe for the rhino and other animals. If a person eats the horn, they might get sick. They may feel nausea or have a stomachache. This helps keep the rhinos safe in their homes.
