Long ago, people used compost and manure. People in Sumeria and China used pesticides thousands of years ago. Today, farmers use many ways to apply these tools. They may spray leaves or coat seeds. They can also soak roots in liquid. We must use these chemicals with great care. If they spill, they can hurt the water. They can also harm the land. Many countries have strict rules for them. Farmers must use safety gear and follow laws. Some farmers use other ways to grow food. They may use organic farming or crop rotation. These ways help plants grow without many chemicals.
