This band name was a nod to sailors in the U.S. Navy. Vincent's music was full of energy and helped shape early rock and roll. He is now honored in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

His music career really took off in the mid-1950s. He wrote a song called "Be-Bop-a-Lula" in 1956.

A local radio DJ named "Sheriff Tex" Davis helped him make a demo. This led to a contract with Capitol Records. The song became a huge hit on the music charts. It stayed on the Billboard pop chart for 20 weeks. He even earned gold records for selling millions of copies of his songs.

Vincent's life began in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1935. His father served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Vincent's family ran a country store in Munden Point. He received his first guitar as a gift when he was twelve. Later, he joined the United States Navy at age 17. He served as a crewman on a ship called the Chukawan. During his time in the Navy, he completed a deployment in Korean waters.

Life brought some hard challenges to Vincent. In 1955, he was in a car accident in Norfolk. This injury left him with a permanent limp and pain. He wore a steel leg brace for the rest of his life. In 1960, he was in another serious car accident while touring the UK. This crash injured his ribs and collarbone. Sadly, his fellow musician Eddie Cochran died from injuries from that same accident.

Vincent became a massive star in the United Kingdom. While he had hits in the US, he had eight top 40 hits in the UK. He moved to Britain in 1963 and performed in many theaters. He even shared the stage with the Beatles in Hamburg. Later in his career, he recorded albums like "I'm Back and I'm Proud." Even though his time as a top star was brief, his rockabilly sound changed music forever. People still study his songs as important pieces of history.
