He is often called the "Architect of Rock and Roll." This name shows how he helped build a new kind of music. His style was very energetic and fast. He used a powerful, raspy voice to sing. He also played the piano with a lot of energy.

His music had a pounding beat that people loved to dance to. This style helped create other types of music like soul and funk.

His music worked by using a strong, fast rhythm. He often used loud, emotive sounds while he sang. This was sometimes called "screaming and hollering" by people who heard him in church. He would play the piano in a way that felt very exciting. To make his band sound full, his drummer sometimes hit the bass drum very hard. This helped create a deep sound even without a bass player.

He was the third of twelve children in his family. As a young boy, his family called him "Lil' Richard" because he was small. He grew up in a religious home and loved singing in church. He learned to play the saxophone in a school marching band. Later, he began working in professional shows. He eventually moved to Atlanta to become a rhythm and blues singer.

His big break came in the mid-1950s. In 1955, he released his famous song "Tutti Frutti." This song became a huge hit in the United States and the United Kingdom. It sold one million copies of the record. His next big song was "Long Tall Sally" in 1956. That song reached number one on the R&B charts.

He had fifteen more hits in less than three years. He even toured Europe and played with The Beatles.

Little Richard changed how people listened to music together. He was one of the first Black artists to reach many different types of people. His concerts helped bring Black and white people together during a time of segregation. Because of this, he is a very important part of music history.
