He was known for his sharp style and rebellious attitude. His music captured the feelings of teenagers in the 1950s. He played many instruments, including the guitar, piano, drums, and bass. Cochran was a very creative person in the recording studio. He experimented with new ways to make music sound different. He used techniques like overdubbing and distortion on his early records. These new ideas helped change how people made music forever.

Eddie's journey into music started when he was very young. He played in his school band and taught himself blues guitar. He learned by listening to country music on the radio. In 1955, he formed a musical duo with Hank Cochran. They were known as the Cochran Brothers and recorded for Ekko Records.

After they split up, Eddie began writing songs with Jerry Capehart. He became a solo artist and signed with Liberty Records. His first big hit for the label was "Sittin' in the Balcony." This song reached number 18 on the Billboard charts.

Cochran had a very successful career with many famous songs. He starred in movies like "The Girl Can't Help It." In that film, he performed the song "Twenty Flight Rock." Another huge hit was "Summertime Blues," which came out in 1958. This song helped make him a major influence on rock and roll. He also appeared on many television shows like "American Bandstand." He even worked as a session musician for other famous artists. He helped record music for singers like Gene Vincent and Mamie Van Doren.

Life was not always easy for Eddie during his career. In 1959, his friends Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens died in a plane crash. This made Eddie feel very sad and worried about his own safety. He wrote a song called "Three Stars" to honor them. He wanted to spend more time in the studio instead of traveling. However, he still went on a big tour of the United Kingdom in 1960. He performed in many places, including the Bristol Hippodrome and Ipswich Gaumont. He was accompanied by many talented musicians on this tour.

Tragedy struck at the end of his British tour in April 1960.

On April 16, Eddie and his friends were traveling in a taxi. They were heading toward Heathrow Airport to fly back home. The vehicle crashed into a lamppost in Chippenham, Wiltshire. Eddie died from his injuries the next day at a hospital. Even though he died young, his music stayed very popular. Many famous artists, like Paul McCartney, were inspired by his work. In 1987, he was officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
