Duck, duck, goose

sports Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Duck, duck, goose is a fun game for kids. Children often learn it in preschool. They play it on playgrounds too. First, players sit in a circle. They face each other. One player is "it." This player walks around the circle. They tap or point to each person. They say "duck" for each player. Then, they call one person a "goose." The goose must stand up fast. The goose tries to tag the picker. The picker runs to sit in the goose's spot. If the picker sits down, they are safe. Then the goose becomes "it." If the goose tags the picker, the picker stays "it."

Many people play this game in different ways. In Minnesota, kids say "duck, duck, gray duck." They might even use colors like "green duck." Another version uses a handkerchief. The picker touches shoulders with a cloth. In a game called "Drip, drip, drop," kids use water. The "it" player drips water on heads. Then they drop a whole container on one person! These games help kids play together and have fun.
