At least two people must play. Usually, there are three or more. One player is chosen to be "it." This player closes their eyes. They count to a set number. While they count, others find places to hide.

When the counting ends, "it" looks for everyone. They might yell, "Ready or not, here I come!"

There are many ways to play. In one way, the last person found wins. In another way, players race to a home base. If they touch it first, they are safe. Some play a game called sardines. In this version, one person hides. Everyone else finds them and hides in the same spot. The space gets very tight, like sardines in a tin.

The last person to find the group loses.

People have played this for a very long time. Ancient Greeks played a version called apodidraskinda. There was even a game in an old painting from the second century. From 2010 to 2017, there was a world championship. It was held in Italy. The winning team won a prize called "The Golden Fig Leaf."
