Marco Polo (game)

sports Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Marco Polo is a fun game played in a pool.

One player is chosen to be "it." This player must close their eyes. They try to find others by using their ears. The "it" player shouts "Marco!" Then, all other players must shout "Polo!" This helps the "it" player hear where people are. If a player is tagged, they become the new "it."

You can also shout "fish out of water!" This happens if a player leaves the pool. The person outside the water becomes "it."

The game has a name like a famous explorer. That man was an Italian trader from the 1200s. However, the game and the man are not truly linked. Some people say the name is just a joke. It might be because the "it" player is lost.

This game is a good workout. The water helps your body float. This puts less stress on your bones and joints. People play many versions of this game today. Some call it "mermaid on the rocks" or "alligator." It is popular in many places around the world.
