The game was made in Germany in 1892. It was first called Stern-Halma. Later, a company in the United States gave it the name we use today.

Two to six people can play the game. You can play alone or with a partner. Each player has ten pieces, like marbles or pegs.

The goal is to move all your pieces to the opposite corner. This corner is called home.

On your turn, you move one piece. You can take one step to an empty space. Or, you can jump over another piece.

You can even make a long chain of jumps in one turn. This is a great way to move fast. You can jump over your own pieces or your friends' pieces.

Smart players look for long paths to reach home quickly. You might also jump to block a friend. Some people play a version called the Diamond game. In that game, one piece is a king. The king can jump over other pieces, but they cannot jump over him.
