It is a non-contact sport. This means players do not tackle each other. Instead, players wear a belt with two velcro tags.

To stop a player, a defender pulls a tag from their belt. This is called a "tag."

Attacking players try to dodge and pass a rugby ball. They want to score points. In some games, like OzTag in Australia, eight players are on the field for each team. In mixed games, teams can have up to four men. In those games, a try scored by a woman is worth two points. A try scored by a man is worth one point.

Many people enjoy this sport because it is safe. It is great for mixed groups of men and women. It is also good for different ages. In Ireland, there are even leagues for "vets," or players over 35. The Pig 'n' Porter Festival in Limerick is the largest tag rugby tournament in the world. It can have up to 150 teams! People play this game in many places like Australia, the UK, and New Zealand.
