Life in the imperial court was full of learning. Dobrodeia lived in the city of Constantinople. She spent time with many smart women there. One of these women was Anna Comnena. Anna was the aunt of her husband. Another noblewoman named Irene was also there. Irene liked to help scholars and astrologers.

Many facts tell us about her life and titles. She was given the title of empress, or basilissa. She also took the name Irene or Eupraxia. These names came from her mother-in-law, Empress Irene of Hungary. Dobrodeia and Alexios had one daughter named Maria.

A writer named Theodore Balsamon noted her interest in healing. He saw how much she liked medical methods. She was a true scholar in a very busy court.
