This volcano is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. This is a place where many volcanoes live. It happens because one plate of Earth slides under another. This movement makes the volcano active.

A long time ago, a large landslide happened. This made a big hole called a caldera. This caldera is shaped like a horseshoe. Inside that hole, a new cone grew during two big eruptions. One happened 18,000 years ago. The other happened 7,000 years ago.

Avachinsky has erupted at least 16 times in history. Its biggest recent eruption was in 1945. It also had small eruptions in 1991 and 2001. The volcano has many fumaroles. These are openings that let out hot gas. The gas can be over 200 degrees Celsius. The ground shakes there often too. Scientists study this volcano to keep people safe.
