They are a mix of many parts. These parts can be many volcanic centers. They also include lava flows.

These volcanoes change over time. They might change how they erupt. Or the main vent might move. A large volcano can make a caldera. A caldera is a large hole in the ground.

This hole can fill with a lava dome. A lava dome is a rounded hill of lava. Small cones can also grow on the rim. These volcanoes are found all over the world. They have been on Earth for a very long time. You can find them in Yellowstone National Park. This park has three caldera complexes. The Long Valley Caldera is another one. There are also many in Canada. The Bennett Lake Caldera is one example. These volcanoes help tell the history of our planet.
