Scientists study the mountain to stay safe. They use video cameras and tools to feel shakes. They also use a special tool to check gases. This helps them predict when it might erupt.

In 2007, scientists did a cool test. They used tiny particles from space called muons. These particles pass through the mountain. By watching them, scientists made a picture of the inside. They saw empty spaces where lava flows through.

This volcano has a long history. In 1108, a huge eruption happened. It covered rice fields in thick ash. In 1783, another big eruption caused much damage. It made lava flows and ash falls. One lava flow is called Onioshidashi. It means "expelling demons." People visit this area to see the old rocks today.
