Mountains sit around the edges of the plain. Many rivers flow through it. Most rivers flow east or southeast. They flow into the Pacific Ocean or Tokyo Bay. The Tone River is a very large river here. It has a huge area of land around it.

Much of the land is made of plateaus. A plateau is a large area of flat land. These plateaus have thick soil. This soil came from old volcanic ash.

The weather here changes with the seasons. Summers are hot and rainy. Typhoons often come in the summer. Winters are cold. Sometimes it snows a little bit. In the south, the air stays mild. This is because of a warm ocean current. The land is shaped like a basin. This means it is low in the middle. The center of the plain is slowly sinking.
