Ambulocetus lived both on land and in water. It was an archaeocete. This is a group of ancient animals that led to modern whales.

It had a long snout and a slim body. Its eyes were on top of its head. This helped it hide in the water. It might have hunted like a crocodile. It could wait near the surface to catch prey.

It swam in a unique way. It moved its body and tail up and down. This is called undulation. It used its back legs to push through the water.

It may have had webbed feet too. On land, it might have walked like a sea lion. Scientists found its bones in Pakistan. These bones show how whales moved from land to the sea.
