Near the coast, the climate is Mediterranean. This means summers are hot and dry. The winters there are mild and wet. If you move to the interior, the weather changes. This inner land has a semi-arid continental climate. The summers stay hot and dry. However, the winters become cold and snowy. The land is filled with many types of forests and scrub.

These areas are called ecoregions. Most of them are terrestrial, which means they are on land. They are part of the Palearctic area. The region has Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub. Some parts have Aegean and Western Turkey mixed forests. Other parts have Anatolian conifer and deciduous mixed forests. There are also Southern Anatolian montane conifer and deciduous forests. These plants and trees help shape the whole region.
