This achievement is a very rare honor in the film world.

Making these cartoons required many different talents and steps. Hanna had a special gift for timing and building stories. He was also very good at finding the best artists to join his team. While Barbera focused on writing jokes and drawing sketches, Hanna managed the production. They worked together to make sure every movement felt right. In the early days, Hanna even led the ink and paint department. This part of the work involved coloring the drawings by hand. He also used his musical skills to write songs for their shows.

William Hanna's journey began in the early 1900s. He was born on July 14, 1910, in Melrose, New Mexico Territory. His family moved often because his father worked on railroads and dams. As a young man, Hanna played the saxophone in a high school band. He studied journalism and engineering before the Great Depression hit. This difficult time forced him to leave college and find new work. He eventually found his way into animation at the Harman and Ising studio in 1930.

Later, he moved to the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio in 1937.

In 1957, Hanna and Barbera started their own company called Hanna-Barbera Productions. This studio became the most successful television animation company of its time. They created many famous shows like The Flintstones and The Jetsons. Other beloved characters included Yogi Bear and Scooby-Doo. In the 1960s, their cartoons reached over 300 million people worldwide. These shows were translated into more than 28 different languages.

The studio eventually grew large enough to be sold for $12 million in 1967. This was a very big amount of money for that time.

Beyond his work in movies, Hanna was a dedicated Scout. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout when he was young. He remained active in Scouting and even served as a Scoutmaster. In 1985, he received the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. This was actually the award he felt most proud of in his life. He also enjoyed personal hobbies like sailing and singing in a group. He remained married to his wife, Violet, for over 64 years.
