On one show, a recording of a car sound failed to play. Blanc stepped in and made the car sounds himself. The audience loved it so much that the show kept him for that role. By 1942, he could perform over fifty-seven different voices and dialects. He even had his own radio show called The Mel Blanc Show in 1946.

His most famous work happened during the golden age of animation. He joined Warner Bros. in 1936 to work on cartoon shorts.

He gave voices to many Looney Tunes stars like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. He also voiced Porky Pig, Sylvester the Cat, and Tweety. To make Bugs Bunny sound real, Blanc would bite a carrot and then spit into a spittoon. He even voiced the laughs for Woody Woodpecker at Universal Pictures. He once made the hiccups for a character in Disney's Pinocchio.

Blanc was a very important person in the history of cartoon credits. In the early days, voice actors rarely got their names on the screen. Blanc wanted credit for his hard work. By 1944, his contract with Warner Bros. required them to list his name. This was a big deal for actors at that time. He made sure people knew who was behind the famous voices. He protected the rights to his characters throughout his entire life.

Later in his career, Blanc moved into television cartoons. He provided the voices for Barney Rubble on The Flintstones. He also voiced characters for The Jetsons, like Mr. Spacely. He worked with the famous director Chuck Jones on Tom and Jerry shorts too. His talent reached even the breakfast table through Froot Loops commercials. He was the very first voice for the character Toucan Sam. Even after many years, his voices remained a part of everyday life.
