A vapor is a type of gas.

It is different from a fixed gas like air. A fixed gas cannot become a liquid easily. A vapor can turn back into a liquid. You can do this by adding pressure. You do not have to change the heat.

Water is a good example. Water has a critical temperature. This is the highest heat where liquid water can exist. For water, that is 374 °C. Below this heat, water vapor can turn into liquid.

Vapors can live with liquids or solids. When they do, they reach equilibrium. This means they are in a steady state. The gas has a certain vapor pressure. This is the pressure from the liquid or solid.

Sometimes, vapors make clouds. They can turn into mist or fog.

In a cloud chamber, vapor helps us see radiation. The vapor turns into tiny liquid droplets on dust. Some vapors can even burn. If a liquid makes a vapor cloud, the cloud may catch fire.
