Twister (game)

arts Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Twister is a famous game of physical skill.

It is played on a large plastic mat spread on the floor. The mat features four rows of colored circles. These circles are red, yellow, green, and blue. Players use their own bodies as the game pieces. This makes people feel like "human pretzels." The goal is to stay balanced while moving. If you fall, you are out of the game. You also lose if your knee or elbow touches the mat.

Playing the game is a simple but tricky process.

A spinner is attached to a square board. The spinner has four main sections for hands and feet. It lists the left foot, right foot, left hand, and right hand. Each section also shows the four different colors. A player spins the device to see their next move. For example, the spinner might say "right hand yellow." You must then place that hand on a yellow circle. In a two-player game, you cannot share a circle.

Many people helped create this popular party game.

In 2023, Hasbro released Twister Air. This version uses a phone and motion-tracking technology. It replaces the plastic mat with digital play. Some people even make special versions for blind players. These use tactile symbols so players can feel the circles.
