In this game, players race four tokens from a starting area to a finish. The movement of these tokens is decided by the roll of a single die. Each player is assigned a bright color like red, blue, green, or yellow.

People enjoy this game because it is a fast-paced race. It is a game that many people around the world play together. It brings friends and families together for a fun challenge.

To begin, all tokens start in a corner yard. A player must roll a six to move a token onto the starting square. Once the tokens are on the track, players move them clockwise. If you land on a square held by an opponent, their token is sent back home. This means they must roll another six to try again.

If you land on your own color, you create a block. A block can stop an opponent from passing. To win, you must move all four tokens into the center finishing square. This requires a very precise roll to reach the end exactly.

Ludo has a long history of different versions. It is related to ancient games from around the world. One example is a pre-Columbian Mesoamerican game called Patolli. Another is the Indian game Pachisi, which was played on cloth boards using cowrie shells.

In England, a man named Alfred Coller marketed the game as "Ludo" in 1896. He eventually patented it and sold it as "Royal Ludo." This helped the game become a common household item in many places.

There are many different versions of this game in other countries.

In Canada, a game called Tock is played using playing cards instead of dice. Each of these versions has its own special rules and ways to play.

Ludo is part of a large family of "cross-and-circle" games. These games use a board with a cross shape and a circle in the middle.

You can find similar games in many different cultures. Some versions in India use two dice instead of one. In Pakistan, some players use two dice to move pieces both forwards and backwards. Even though the rules change, the feeling of the race stays the same. It is a game that connects people through simple, exciting play.
