technology Maturity 9-11 Next article →

Tom Anderson is a famous technology entrepreneur from America. He is best known for helping start Myspace in 2003. This website was a huge place for social networking. He worked with a partner named Chris DeWolfe to build it. When new people made a profile, Tom was automatically their first friend. Because of this, many people called him "My friend, Tom."

Building Myspace involved many different steps and companies. First, Tom worked at a digital storage company called XDrive. He met Chris DeWolfe there while working as a product tester. After XDrive went bankrupt in 2001, they started a new company called ResponseBase. They sold that company in late 2002 to eUniverse. Then, Tom and others set up the first Myspace pages in August 2003. They wanted a site that allowed people to use their real names.

Tom's life has always been full of different paths. He grew up in Escondido, California, and went to San Pasqual High. As a teenager, he used the name "Lord Flathead" to hack computers. He later went to the University of California, Berkeley, to study English. After that, he was the lead singer of a band called Swank. He also lived in Taiwan for a while. Later, he moved to Los Angeles to study film at UCLA.

His work at Myspace became very big and very official. In 2005, the company was sold to News Corp for $580 million. Tom became the president of the company after this sale. However, being president meant he had to follow many new rules. He had to deal with budget reviews and long processes. In April 2009, News Corp replaced him as president. By 2010, a new profile called "T.O.M." became the default friend.

Today, Tom enjoys many hobbies that are not about computers. He loves photography and likes to capture beautiful scenes. He often travels to places like Thailand and Myanmar to take photos. He says he wants his pictures to look like a painter's work. He also uses social media sites like Facebook and Instagram. Tom says he loves change and likes the idea of adventure. He is always happy to see where life leads him next.
