There are three types of taipan. One is the inland taipan. It is the most venomous snake in the world. Another is the coastal taipan. This snake is very big. It is the third-most venomous snake in the world. The third type is the Central Ranges taipan. Scientists are still studying this one.

Taipans eat small mammals. They like to eat rats and bandicoots. They use venom to hunt. Their venom is neurotoxic. This means it can stop a victim's nervous system from working. The venom also makes blood clot. This can block blood vessels.

Some taipans are shy. But coastal taipans can be aggressive. They may defend themselves if they feel trapped.

In the 1950s, experts milked a taipan for its venom. They used the venom to make antivenom. An antivenom is a medicine that helps people after a bite. There are two types of this medicine available today. It helps keep people safe from these deadly snakes.
