It is a type of chili pepper. These peppers are very hot. They rate between 30,000 and 50,000 on the Scoville scale. This scale measures how much heat a pepper has. People use them to make Tabasco sauce. They also use them for peppered vinegar.

The plant has a bushy shape. It can grow quite tall. The peppers are about 4 cm long. They do not hang down. Instead, the fruits stay erect. This means they point up toward the sky.

Growing these peppers takes care. They need much warmth to grow. The seeds do best in warm soil. They also need plenty of light. The soil should be fertile and well-drained. This means water flows through it easily.

Peppers change color as they ripen. They start as a pale yellowish-green. Then they turn yellow and orange. Finally, they become bright red. It takes about 80 days for them to mature. In the 1960s, a virus hurt many plants. A new kind was grown in 1970 to help.
