Stomatosuchidae is a family of old crocodilians. These animals lived a long time ago. They lived during the Late Cretaceous period.

Scientists found their fossils in Africa. These bones came from Egypt, Morocco, and Niger.

These crocs had very special heads. Their skulls were platyrostral. This means their heads were very flat and long. Their jaws were shaped like a duck. Their jaws also had a U-shape. They were not as curved as some other crocs.

Two types of these crocs are known. One type is called Stomatosuchus. We only know about it from old notes. A skull was found in Egypt once. But that skull was lost in a war. It was destroyed during World War II. The other type is called Laganosuchus. We have found more bones of this one. Some were found in Niger. Others were found in Morocco. It is still a mystery to study them.
