Many styles come from many places. They use ideas from Roman and Islamic gardens. One famous style is the paradise garden. These gardens are often inside walled courtyards. They use a cross shape for their layout. Long paths of water flow through the garden. These are called rills. The water makes a nice sound. It also keeps the air cool and fresh. This is good for the hot Spanish sun. You might see fruit trees and sweet plants. Many gardens use colorful ceramic tiles. These tiles can be on walls or floors. People also use pots for plants. To stay in the shade, gardens use pergolas. A pergola is a wooden frame for plants. You can also find garden pavilions for rest. Spain has many historic gardens. Some are very old. The Alhambra is a famous one in Granada.
