This style of garden began long ago in the Achaemenid Empire. Many of these gardens are now famous World Heritage Sites in Iran.

Most gardens use a special design called Chahar Bagh. This means "four gardens." The space is split into four parts by water channels. These channels lead to pools, fountains, or large basins.

Water is very important because Iran can be very hot. People use tunnels called qanats to bring water to the gardens. This water keeps the plants healthy and the air cool.

Gardens are more than just pretty places. They are used for resting and thinking. They also show the power of leaders. Some gardens even hold the tombs of important people.

A famous leader named Babur brought this style to India. He loved fruit trees like cherries and oranges. He wanted his gardens to have shade, fruit, scent, and running water.
