It lived on the ocean floor. This animal was a predator. A predator is a hunter that eats other animals. It used its legs to crush food. The legs had parts called gnathobases. These parts had many sharp spines. They worked like a tool to shred food. Sidneyia liked to eat animals with hard shells. It ate young trilobites and brachiopods. It might have eaten soft worms too.

Its body had many parts. It had a short head shield. This shield had notches for its eyes. The eyes sat on small stalks. It also had long antennae on its head. The middle of its body had eight to ten segments. These segments had two-branched limbs. We call these limbs biramous. One branch was for walking. The other branch helped it breathe. These outer branches were called exopods. They acted like gills. The body ended with a tail called a telson.
