It is a type of arthropod. Arthropods are animals with hard outer shells. This animal lived in the ocean during the Cambrian period. Scientists found its fossils in Canada and China.

Leanchoilia had a very unique look. It had two pairs of eyes. Two eyes sat on each side of its head. Hard shields covered and protected these eyes. It also had large appendages. These are parts used for moving or grabbing. These parts had long, whip-like tails called flagellae.

Sometimes, fossils show its inside organs. These organs are kept in three dimensions. This means they look solid and not flat. There are seven known species of Leanchoilia. One is called Leanchoilia superlata. Other species include L. persephone and L. protogonia. Scientists found 55 specimens in one area. They make up a small part of that animal group. Two species might even be males and females of the same kind.
