Some people hold a special belief called the sanctity of life. This idea says that life is holy or sacred. It means life has so much value that it should not be harmed. This belief can apply to humans or animals. Some people even apply it to tiny germs.

In Christianity, many believe each human life belongs to God. This makes every person precious. In Judaism, there is a rule called Pikuach nefesh. This rule says saving a life is the most important thing. It can even change other religious laws. It applies to all people.

Islam teaches that all life forms are sacred. However, humans are placed above other living things. In Islam, saving one life is as important as saving all of humanity. Many Muslims believe a soul enters a body on the 120th day of growth.

Some Eastern religions have different views. Many believe all animal life is sacred. For example, followers of Jainism are very careful. They may carry brushes to sweep insects from their path. They do this so they do not step on them by mistake.
