Chaitanya was seen as an incarnation of Krishna. Before this, Rupa worked in a government office. He and his brother, Sanatana, held high jobs. They worked for a ruler named Sultan Husayn Shah. They even had special titles like Sakar Mallik and Dabir Khas. When they met Chaitanya, they left their jobs to become monks.

Chaitanya sent the brothers to a place called Vrindavan.

At that time, Vrindavan was woody and had very few people living there. The brothers had a big job to do. They had to find sacred sites that were lost. They studied old books to learn about the geography of Krishna's life. Rupa even found a statue of Govindadeva during his travels. He helped make Vrindavan a very important place again.
