He lived in Bengal a long time ago. He worked for a ruler in a government office. One day, he met a holy man named Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Rupa and his brother, Sanatana, left their high jobs to follow him. They became monks.

Chaitanya sent the brothers to a place called Vrindavan. At that time, the area was woody and empty. Rupa and Sanatana looked for lost sacred sites. They studied old books to find these places. Rupa even found a statue of the god Govindadeva. He led a group of six teachers known as the Six Goswamis.

He wrote many books in Sanskrit. One book is called Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu. It explains different levels of faith. He also wrote plays. Two of his plays are Vidagdhamadhava and Lalitamadhava. He wrote them as two parts after a vision. These stories tell about the life of Krishna. Rupa Goswami died in 1564. His nephew and student, Jiva Goswami, took his things.
