His buildings often show how they work. For example, the Lloyd's building has pipes on the outside. This was a very new idea at the time. He also liked using simple parts that could be made in a factory. He designed a house called the Zip-Up House. This used ideas about parts that fit together easily.

He also designed a glass cube house near Maldon, Essex.

Rogers was born in Florence, Italy, in 1933. His family had Jewish roots from places like Venice and Milan. In 1938, his father moved the family back to England. This was to escape the laws in Italy at that time. Richard went to school at St John's School in Leatherhead. He later studied in London and at the Yale School of Architecture.

Rogers faced many hard jobs during his life. He had dyslexia, which means his brain reads in a different way. He could not read well until he was 11 years old. This made him feel very sad when he was young. However, he became a very successful designer. He won the Pritzker Prize in 2007. This is the highest honor an architect can get.
