A railroad car is a special vehicle used for travel. These vehicles move along a rail transport network. When many cars link together, they form a train. A locomotive is the engine that pulls them. Some passenger cars are self-propelled. This means they have their own power to move. Most cars carry things that earn money for the railroad. These are called passenger cars or freight cars.

You might find tables for eating between seats. Long trips often use sleeping cars with small bedrooms. Some special cars are called dome cars. These have a glass roof to see the sky.
