Nature lovers can find many wonders on the island. The Namakdan Salt Cave is a very special place. It is 6.6 km long and is one of the longest salt caves in the world. This cave formed inside a large salt dome. People have traditionally mined salt and sulphur there. The Hara marine forests are also a famous sight. These forests are home to many living things. About 25% of the native birds in Iran fly to these forests every year. You can also see Hawksbill turtles hatching in Shibderaz village.

Qeshm has a very long history that goes back many centuries. People lived there during the Paleolithic Period. Scientists have found stone tools at a place called Bam-e Qeshm. Many different groups have visited or ruled the island over time. These include the Elamites, the Portuguese, the English, and the Dutch. In the past, the island was a busy center for trade and navigation. Ships from China, India, and Eastern Africa used to sail past. Some old books even suggested the Garden of Eden might be located here.

Life on the island is shaped by the sea and the sun. The average temperature is quite warm. The hottest months are June, July, and August. The coldest months are from October to January. Many people live in the 59 towns and villages on the island. In 2011, the population was 117,774 people. Many inhabitants work as fishers or build dhow boats. Others work in trade or services.
